I will be again joining Cait @ Paper Fury and Sky @ Further Up And Further In for this month's edition of Beautiful People. If you have no idea what Beautiful People is, check out this link to an explanation. So, I know I've done one of these characters for each Beautiful People I've participated in so far, but currently they are the only characters to whom all of these questions apply to. Yep. I'm doing Eli and Nor again.
1. Do they want to get married and/or have children? Why or why not?
Eli: doesn't want to get married. She's scared of loving someone that much, and also doesn't want to end up trapped in a stale or abusive marriage. But, as she is the crown princess, she will probably at some point need to make an alliance marriage. She prefers not to think about that. She loves, loves, loves kids. She's very good with them, and would want to have some of her own, except that she's worried that, as a result of her position they might be manipulated or harmed.
Nor: She's kind of unsure. In the country of her birth, marriage is arranged and required for everyone, and the thoughts of the prospective spouses aren't always considered. She doesn't want that kind of marriage. But, if she can ever convince the person she loves, she might marry them. Nor also loves kids, but hasn't had much experience with them since she left Aylrzha (her birth country). When she lived there, she helped take care of her younger siblings, her younger cousins, and her nieces and nephews. She really wants kids, but she can't biologically carry them.
2. What is their weapon of choice? (It doesn't necessarily have to be a physical weapon).
Eli: Her knives. They were her first weapon; her mother taught her them as a child. She likes them because they are easy to hide, and easy to carry. She also kind of hates them, because her using them ended up sometimes with her mother getting hurt.
Nor: Her beak, her claws, and her fangs. As a kymera (chimera), she has three animal forms, plus a combo of all three. Her other forms are: a black panther, a raven, and a type of snake similar to an Indian cobra. When she's in her humanoid form, she does not use weapons (which occasionally drives Angi crazy!).
3. What's the nicest thing they've ever done for someone else, and why did they do it?
Eli: Well...I'm not sure, and neither is she. She does nice things for her friends and family, but nothing really stands out. This does not mean she doesn't do nice things. Her nice things are small, quiet, everyday actions.
Nor: She's a genuinely nice and kind person, but the kindest thing she's ever done is forgiving her family for what they have done and try to do. She did it because she didn't want to hang onto the anger and want for revenge that she was feeling; she felt if she didn't, she would be eaten up by it, until her good qualities disappeared. It was hard, but she's doing a good job with it.
4. Have they ever been physically violent with someone, and what instigated it?
Eli: Yes, multiple times. Usually an insult, a threat, or surprise. Sometimes something will trigger her and she'll react violently. She does try to avoid unnecessary violence.
Nor: Almost never. To defend herself; someone tried to hurt her.
5. Are they a rule-follower or a rebel?
Eli: She likes rules because they provide a reliable framework, but she's the daughter of the leader of a rebellion, and has her own intelligence network, so she's a rebel who likes rules.
Nor: She tries to follow rules because doing so helps her fly under the radar, which she prefers. She despises lots of attention. But, Eli convinced her to be her spymaster because she is so connected with the legal and not-so-legal parts of the city. She's a rule-follower with rebel tendencies.
6. Are they organized or messy?
Eli: She knows basic housekeeping skills so she doesn't drive the servants crazy, but she's not really inclined to be neat. Her mind, however, is highly organized.
Nor: She really hates any type of mess, though she likes that sort of homey shabbiness and clutter that lots of well-used furniture and objects can bring to a room
7. What makes them feel loved and who was the last person to make them feel that way?
Eli: When people do small kindnesses for her. Probably Nor, doing something like holding her or letting her stay over, etc. But maybe it was her mother, grandparents, or uncle.
Nor: When people let her take care of them or act affectionately. I'd say probably Eli.
8. What do they eat for breakfast?
Eli: She's very tied to her country's traditions, so she normally eats this light bread/cake called sareemaan with lentils and mosos wan; green tea.
Nor: She owns a business and is often too busy for a real breakfast, so she usually also drinks green tea, and has a few slices of bread spread with honey and either a walnut or almond butter. When she has more time, she eats this egg, cheese, and chard dish on a flatbread.
9. Have they ever lost someone close to them? What happened?
Eli: Her older sister died soon after Eli first got to know her. Her sister was pregnant with triplets, and it was a hard birth. She lost another person, not to death, but because the other person betrayed her. (I can't tell you who, because it would be too much of a spoiler).
Nor: When she came out as a woman, and then had to run away, she lost pretty much everyone in her family. (They are EXTREMELY transphobic). But one of them might change their mind in the future, which would make Nor really happy, because she still loves them.
10. What's their treat of choice? (Or, if not food, how else do they reward themselves?)
Eli: Her culture doesn't really have a lot of sweet dishes, and other than fruit, she isn't a huge fan of sweet things. A treat for her is being able to spend time with Nor for no other reason than she wants to, and not having to leave after only staying a short time.
Nor: She has a huge, huge sweet tooth. Her favorite treat are these chewy syrup candies with berries in them.
I hope you liked this! If you're curious about Nor and Eli, and haven't been here before, check out these links:
